Rat Doom Mod is a mod for the first-person shooter game, Doom II: Hell on Earth. It is a campy modification to the game where your weapons appear as rats. It was created by an independent developer, Mattheenstra. He believed that there are not enough adequate rodents in the post-apocalyptic environment. The modder also refers to it as ‘Rat Dom’ - the only program that trades out all of Doom II’s weapons for a rodent.
What does Rat Doom Mod do?
Mr. Madolino was inspired by gamers who frequently posted images of rodents on the chat and instant messaging app, Discord. This low exertion mod exchanges the appearance of guns and missiles with pictures of rats. It is unlike the Rat King in the adventure game, Destiny 2; your weapon will not be a sidearm with rodents cut on it. Your weapons are plump, adorable, and fluffy rats that are not fazed by the blood and gore.
The rat that stands out from the selection is the one that is holding a gun himself. This means you will be shooting bullets out of the rat (that will also be shooting bullets from his gun). You will not be able to choose which rat belongs to which weapon, though. The weapons already have their assigned rats so you can’t select an image that you prefer nor can you upload your own rats into this mod.
Rat Doom Mod’s only downside is that there is no interaction between you and the rodents. They are all static so it appears that you’re shooting rounds from a two-dimensional image. Rat fans would be thrilled if their beloved rodents will move as they’re shooting. For example, the rat turns their back on you when shooting, and faces you when at rest. You could also interact with the rat is to feed like as if it were a pet.
A charming addition to a shooter game
Doom II: Rat Doom Mod is a straightforward mod that is perfect for fans of Dooms and rats. You’ll see the most charming rats take the place of your favorite weapons and take down the monsters of Doom; however, the rats are limited to 2D photos. It would have been better if the rats were more interactive.
